Adjusting after job loss
It can be hard adjusting after a company layoff or plant closure. If you’ve lost your job from a large employer (50+ employees), you can get help making the adjustment.
Getting advice
Meet with an advisor who will help you figure out how you can get back to work following a company layoff or plant closure. This can include things like:
- job-searching
- career, financial and personal counselling
- training
- registering for other services
- getting information about starting your own business
Join a group
Your advisor will help you find and join a group with other employees, managers, employers and union staff – all people who have gone through the company layoff or plant closure with you.
Together you’ll look at what services are available – and what services are needed – in your community and how they can help you get back to work.
Who can take part
To take part in the Adjustment Advisory Program, you must:
- be an Ontario resident
- have lost your job due to layoffs or closures from an employer with 50 or more employees
- employers with 50 or more employees, must have filed a Notice of Termination (i.e. Form 1 Summary) with the Ministry of Labour
If you represent an organization
If you represent an employer, union, industry association or community, you can also take part in the Adjustment Advisory Program.
An advisor will help you find and join a committee with other representatives from similar organizations. Together you’ll identify needs, goals, resources and a strategy for your sector or community to adjust following a layoff or closure.
