The province of Ontario has been supporting a limited number of patient transfers to assist Manitoba manage current capacity pressure in their intensive care units. This is in recognition of the significant pressure that COVID-19 has placed on the health care systems of both provinces and the need to support each other during this time of the pandemic.

For these out-of-province transfers from Manitoba, a patient transferred to a receiving hospital in Ontario will not be charged co-payment fees associated with air and land ambulance service costs. Hospitals that have already billed such patients are advised not to follow up with them and to cancel the invoice.

Manitoba will fund all other costs associated with repatriating these patients back to Manitoba, including private transfer service charges. These costs are to be submitted to Manitoba Shared Health to the attention of Connie McDonald at Connie.McDonald@gov.mb.ca.

Please forward this bulletin to your hospital’s out-of-province billing department for their guidance.
