Bulletin 211201 — Update: Temporary COVID‑19 Vaccine Fee Code
Clarification for G593 as Ontario updates COVID-19 Vaccination Recommendations
To: Physicians
Category: Physician Services
Written by: Provider Services Branch; OHIP, Pharmaceuticals and Devices Division
Date issued: December 9, 2021
To support the government’s COVID-19 vaccination strategy and roll out, the Ministry of Health (the Ministry) is providing clarification for fee code G593-COVID-19 Vaccine.
Currently all doses administered in accordance with the recommendations in the provincial guidelines in place in Ontario at the time of the vaccination service are considered eligible for payment under G593. (For example: all doses listed in the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 Vaccine Recommendations).
Therefore, G593 is payable to physicians administering each dose of the COVID-19 vaccination series in settings that are not designated by the Ministry as a COVID-19 Assessment Centre. This would include non-mass vaccination settings, such as a primary care office.
Physicians providing COVID-19 vaccination services at a Ministry designated COVID-19 Assessment Centre (mass vaccination site) may claim the temporary H409 and H410 sessional codes for remuneration. This includes any sites where a hospital or Public Health Unit (PHU) coordinates COVID-19 vaccine delivery, and includes physicians deployed as part of a mobile team at an eligible COVID-19 Assessment Centre. To claim H409 and H410, physicians require a group number, which will be provided by the hospital or Public Health Unit coordinating the vaccine delivery.
