Physicians now have another opportunity to register for the two-year (April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026) patient-to-physician Secure Messaging Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Pilot from August 27 to September 30, 2025, through the Secure Messaging Proof-of-Concept Pilot page on Ontariohealth.ca.

Participation in the Secure Messaging PoC

The Secure Messaging PoC is intended for physicians who:

  • have a significant interest in providing services by secure messaging in their practice, or are currently doing so; and
  • are willing to be part of a time-limited, evaluated PoC that will inform the overall strategic approach for secure messaging in Ontario, including elements such as technology and implementation approaches.

Physicians that register in the Secure Messaging PoC:

  • agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the Secure Messaging PoC;
  • agree to participate in the evaluation; and
  • receive permission to submit claims for public funding for the delivery of eligible uninsured services to patients by secure messaging.

This public funding for the delivery of eligible uninsured services is provided by the Ontario Virtual Care Program (OVCP) during the two-year duration of the Secure Messaging PoC, from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2026.
