Overview
The Ministry of Health is aware of an issue where OHIP billing numbers were being displayed on a third-party website. This website has since been shut down.
The website allowed a search by provider name and returned an OHIP billing number and city.
The government recognizes that billing numbers are sensitive and is taking additional precautions to enhance the security of our processes. The matter continues to be under active investigation.
As a result, individuals making changes to their accounts may be contacted and required to provide additional information to confirm their identity.
Out of an abundance of caution the Ministry has spoken with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) and continues to work with relevant partners as the investigation continues. Note, there is currently no evidence that any patient personal health information has been accessed, exposed, or compromised.
Please note that the Service Support Contact Centre does not have any further information regarding the website at this time. The ministry will notify the relevant associations should there be additional information available or changes to processes.
