Background

The Ministry of Health (the ministry) and the Ontario Medical Association have been working together to implement the 2024 Physician Services Agreement (PSA), including the new stipend for eligible in-hospital anaesthesia services.

Initial anaesthesia stipend payment

The ministry has processed the first anaesthesia stipend payment for eligible H010A claims.

This payment will appear on physicians’ individual (solo) remittance advices in October 2026 as an accounting transaction labelled: ‘PSA 2024 ANAESTHESIA STIPEND’

The initial payment includes all eligible services provided between April 1, 2026 and June 30, 2026 (Q1), where the associated H010A claim was received by the ministry on or before the claims processing cut-off for August 2026.

Only H010A claims submitted with valid anaesthesia stipend group billing numbers were accepted for stipend payment consideration.

Future payments and reconciliation

Anaesthesia stipend payments will continue to be made on a quarterly basis.

The next payment is anticipated in December 2026 and is expected to include payment of:

  • Eligible H010A claims for services provided between July 1, 2026 and September 30, 2026 (Q2), as received by the ministry on or before the claims processing cut-off for October 2026; and
  • A reconciliation of eligible Q1 claims that were submitted after the August 2026 cut-off for the initial payment.

Physicians who have not yet submitted eligible H010A claims for services dating back to April 1, 2026 are encouraged to do so as soon as possible to ensure those services can be included in a future payment cycle, subject to applicable submission requirements.

The temporary exemption to stale-dating requirements for H010A will end with the processing cut-off for October 2026. After this date, standard stale-dating rules will be in effect.
